Before you write a single goal for 2026, read this

Stop. Put down the resolution list. Do this instead.

Dear Sparkler,

Is it Tuesday? Thursday? Does time even exist anymore?

Welcome to Betwixtmas:
that strange purgatory where nobody knows what day it is, half your inbox is out-of-office replies, and the other half is people trying to sell you a "new year, new you" transformation.

Your brain is doing that thing. You know the one.
It's either screaming "GET BACK TO NORMAL" or
"TIME FOR 47 LIFE-CHANGING RESOLUTIONS."
Both responses are wrong.

Here's what's actually happening:
you're in a liminal space
.

That floaty, disoriented, what-day-is-it feeling?
It's not a bug. It's a feature.

And I'd argue it's the most valuable week of your year.

Not for goal-setting.
Not for manifesting.
Not for writing lists you'll abandon by February.

For something much more important: listening.

The Question That Stopped Me in My Tracks

I was listening to Chris Williamson this week and heard something that made me put down my mince pie:

"What would have to happen by the end of 2026 for me to look back and consider it a success?"

Not what do I want to achieve.
Not what should I be doing.
What would make me look back and think: yes. That. That was worth it.

It usually comes down to only a few things.
And in order to pick something up, you have to put something down.

You can't do everything.
You probably can't even do more than you're doing now.
So what actually matters?

That's the question this weird week is perfect for answering.

Before You Plan, Do This

I've been obsessed with Dr. Anne-Laure Le Cunff's work lately. She's a neuroscientist, founder of Ness Labs, author of Tiny Experiments, and genuinely one of the smartest people I know on how our brains actually work when it comes to goals and progress.

Her approach is refreshingly simple.

Before you write a single resolution, run her Plus Minus Next review:

Plus:
What actually gave you energy in 2024? Not what should have. What did.

Minus:
What drained you? What made you want to fake your own death and move to Portugal?

Next:
What's one tiny experiment you could run in January? Not a resolution. An experiment. Something you can try for a week and learn from.

This is the data you need before you can plan anything meaningful.

And if you want to go deeper with Anne-Laure herself, she's joining me on 13th January for our next Glittersphere Spotlight breakfast.
We're going deep on liminal spaces, tiny experiments, and how to build momentum without burning out.

It's intimate. It's in-person.
And honestly? It's the best possible way to start 2026.
Better than any power smoothie or vitamin drip.
This is the boost you actually need.

Bold moves only.

Here's the other thing I've learned:
you can't think your way into a new life.
You have to act your way there.

That's why I'm running Fuck-It List workshops in January.

Not goal-setting. Bolder than that.

What's the move you've been putting off?
The pitch you haven't sent?
The conversation you've been avoiding?
The thing you keep telling yourself you'll do "when you're ready"?

We're going to write those lists together.
The bold moves. The scary ones.
The ones that make your stomach flip a bit.

And then we're going to commit to actually doing them.

The Bigger Picture

Here's what I've been sitting with this Betwixtmas:

We're not just between Christmas and New Year. We're between worlds.

The pre-AI era is done.
What comes next hasn't fully landed. Everyone's either pretending everything's fine or making grand pronouncements about transformation they won't follow through on.

I've been that person.
Same goals every January. Huge intention. Zero action. By February, back to old patterns.

This year, I'm doing something different.
I've been building something. A framework. A movement. A rebellion, actually.

Because I don't think we need more small shifts. I think we need to stop waiting for permission, stop playing by rules that weren't written for us, and start making bold moves.

More on that in January.
For now, just know: something's coming that I believe will make youn shine in this new AI age.

One More Thing

If you want a head start on any of this, I've been putting out free videos on YouTube that cover exactly this stuff:

Your Homework for Betwixtmas

Stop. Breathe. Notice what bubbles up.

Not what you think you should want.
What you actually feel.
The excitement. The dread.
The thing you keep avoiding thinking about.

That's your data.

And when you're ready to do something with it, I'll be here.

Sparkle on. πŸ’Ž

Nishma

P.S. Seriously, the Anne-Laure event will sell out. If you're even vaguely interested, grab a ticket now before January-you is annoyed at December-you for waiting.

P.P.S. If someone asks you what day it is this week, just say "Betwixtmas" with full confidence and move on. Works every time.

Hello Sparkler, Right. Quick question. Have you ever spent ages crafting the "perfect" post, agonised over every word, made sure it was polished and professional and on-brand... and then watched it disappear into the void while some random person's messy, off-the-cuff thing goes viral? Yeah. Me too. For about thirty years. I've spent a hundred conversations telling other people how to build a personal brand. Be consistent. Be professional. Find your niche. Post on a schedule. And I did all of...

Hello Sparkler, You're doing the work. You're showing up. You're putting things out there. You're building something you believe in. And some days it feels like absolutely nobody is watching. I know that feeling. Intimately. So when I found out that Olivia Dean performed to four people in 2023, and then won a Grammy in 2026, I needed to understand how. Not the luck. Not the breaks. The actual mechanics of how someone goes from an empty room to the most commercially coveted artist in Britain...

Hello Sparkler, Ever waited to feel ready? Waited for someone to finally notice how brilliant you are? Built your entire sense of worth on what other people think of you? Yeah. Me too. So I did something slightly unhinged this week. I asked an AI to tell me the harsh truths that younger Nishma desperately needed to hear. Not the motivational poster version. The actual uncomfortable, slightly stinging, "oh god is that true about me?" version. And wow... it delivered. Some of it made me wince....
